At Northern Village, we believe that a strong design can reinforce the core message of your website. We therefore recommend that a design be created after a good amount of the content has been entered into the prototype.

Working through content first provides more time for a business or organization to really think about the image it wants to convey through words and visuals. Solid content can often give birth to various design ideas, or draw attention to particular elements that can be targeted by a good design.

In traditional website development, the reverse process is usually the case. After the planning stage, a web developer will create a design that tries to capture the results. If the designer is very good, the design may be successful. Unfortunately, however, generating the content after the design can lead to a disconnection between them. It can certainly limit your, or your designer's, freedom in organizing the material in the most effective way. Finalizing the design later in the web development process means that nuances of the content can be more readily reflected in it.
