Why Biodiversity?
The client
The grade 11 students that are part of the da Vinci Arts & Science Environmental Leadership Program of the Upper Grand District School Board are responsible for the website that asks the timely and essential question: Why biodiversity? Their intent is to promote biodiversity--the key to our survival--and inform others about its importance. For example: Did you know that 17,291 species out of 47,677 known species are already at risk? Get informed and do something to prevent further habitat and species loss!
Client goals
The grade 11 students in this program were venturing on a campaign to promote biodiversity that would include an educational website, bus ads, and posters. Given that the campaign was student-driven, they needed to be able to build the website themselves, but have access to support and guidance. Northern Village was happy to provide that assistance. It had previously worked with the da Vinci program on its website, which can also be found on the side menu under Community websites.
Implementation
Northern Village worked directly with the students to get the website up and running using Village CMS, a software that would allow the students to upload and update their own content. They designed the site, which Northern Village then implemented. A rotating top banner features the posters created by the students, while a photo gallery displays them in a bigger format.
