The client

Sweetie Box Studios based in Guelph, Ontario, is owned by Amy Smania, a jeweller that specializes in hand-crafted, extravagant "statement" pieces. Commissioned pieces for private clients have become a mainstay at Sweetie Box, but her exclusive product has also been available across Canada at boutiques and in galleries including the National Gallery of Canada.

Client goals

Amy wanted to present the current collections of Sweetie Box Studios in an accessible format that showcases the jewellery in the best possible light. In her case, that means an elegant and hip website that would allow her to easily upload many images. Her previous website was in the format of a shop, but she found that it didn't allow the level of personal contact that people were looking for in purchasing high-end jewellery. The new website would therefore function more as a promotional, rather than sales, tool.

Implementation

Amy's old shopping cart-style website was moved over into Village CMS, which makes it easily updatable. The gallery feature of the software also makes it quite easy to upload and organize images, as well as to add descriptions to each picture. The jewellery can be viewed as thumbnails and as larger close-ups. The home page allows visitors to get an overview of the jewelery made by amy. The simple design and color choices emphasize the sophisticated, hip nature of Amy's jewelry.
