Ed Video Media Arts Centre
The client
Ed Video is a charitable artist-run centre that fosters the creation, exhibition and appreciation of media arts. Anyone can become a member, take workshops, rent equipment at affordable rates, or take part in their events. Since 1976, Ed Video has helped members create video-based projects. But they don't serve only video artists. Their membership explores the creative potentials of many forms of art, including film, sound art, installation, and new media. Their 1150 square foot gallery boasts an ongoing schedule of screenings, exhibitions, and events.
Client goals
Ed Video needed a major update and re-organization of their website, which had grown far too big for the old site structure to handle. They needed a structure which would be easier to navigate and that would easily facilitate finding specific pages, given the hefty number of pages now necessary to present everything the organization does. Ed Video is all about production, events, and its membership, so these areas needed to be clearly presented. The look and feel would remain the same: clean and consistent, with colors that contrast dramatically.
Implementation
The website, originally created by Northern Village using Village CMS, was and still is easy to update (content is updated by staff and volunteers at Ed Video). But the structure was streamlined and pages rearranged so that members could more easily manage and navigate the website. The home page was also redone to reflect the re-organization. What stands out about this site is that it took only a matter of days to finish the project--an Ed Video member mapped out the pages and worked with NV to implement the changes. Technology doesn't have to be overwhelming!
